What to expect from Bain SOVA

- Who gets it
- Not everyone. Bain emails after you apply to say whether you need to take it, and on which platform.
- Time
- About 30 to 40 minutes. SOVA can be split across sittings; TestGorilla is done in one.
- What you can use
- Pen, paper and a calculator. No AI tools, recording or screenshots.
- Device
- A laptop or desktop with a stable connection, somewhere quiet.
- Retakes
- If you've done it before, you usually won't need to again.

Your prep plan
Five steps for the days before your deadline.
- 01
Check Bain's email
It says whether you need a test, on which platform, and your deadline.
- 02Read the SOVA guide
Learn the sections
Know what each part asks before the clock starts.
- 03Play SOVA
Take a full practice test
It shows where you're slow as well as where you're wrong.
- 04Case maths drills
Speed up your maths
Percentages, ratios and reading tables make up most of the numbers section.
- 05Practise a case
Start on the interviews
Bain cases are conversations about real client problems. Practise the maths without a calculator, as interviews don't allow one.
The interviews
Candidate-led cases
A structured conversation about a real problem Bain has worked on, with as much weight on practical judgement as on the numbers.
- Sense-check your numbers out loud.
- There's no calculator in interviews, so practise the maths on paper.
- Be ready to talk about your experience and how you work with others.

Common questions
Will I get SOVA or TestGorilla?

Is the test timed?

What is the personality part?
A questionnaire about how you like to work. There are no right answers, so answer honestly and consistently.
