Read the title and axes aloud
Including units and the time period. Half of all exhibit errors are unit errors caught by this one step.

Say what kind of comparison it enables
Over time? Against competitors? Across segments? This tells you what question it was given to you to answer.

Find the one thing that stands out
The outlier, the crossover, the divergence. Exhibits in cases always contain a deliberate signal.

Quantify it
Not 'costs rose a lot' but 'raw materials went from 34% to 45% of COGS: eleven points in three years.'

Link it to the case objective
'Which matters because it explains most of the margin gap we're trying to close.'
