Ecosystem Building
Choose a location, then assemble a set of species that can survive there together. It looks like biology. It is really a constraint-satisfaction problem with a calorie budget.
The rules
Read these carefully. Most points are lost to a rule that was skimmed.
- 1Every species you select must fall inside the chosen location's depth, temperature and salinity ranges.
- 2Every non-producer must have at least one of its food sources present in your selection.
- 3Each species must receive at least as many calories as it needs from the food sources you included.
- 4A species cannot be over-eaten: the calories its predators draw cannot exceed what it provides.
- 5You must select exactly 8 species.
You are scored twice
Product score is whether your ecosystem is correct. Process score is how you investigated, whether you inspected species before committing and revised deliberately rather than clicking at random. The real assessment measures both.
